Tips for finding out your Out-of-Network reimbursement rates
I am in-network with Aetna, Cigna/Evernorth, Original Medicare, Aetna Medicare Advantage, and Cigna/Evernorth Medicare Advantage. I am considered out-of-network for all other insurance plans. In that situation, you would pay the full fee for sessions up front, and then it’s up to you as to whether you want to try for partial reimbursement from insurance by submitting claims on your own, or to just not deal with that. I can easily provide the necessary “SuperBill” for each session if you want to file claims.
Some insurance plans will do a partial reimbursement for sessions with someone who is out-of-network. If you want to learn more about the amounts and how it would work, you can call and ask them these questions:
-
What is my out-of-network deductible for outpatient mental health or behavioral health?
-
Have I met the deductible, and if not, how much is left?
(the deductible is the amount you are responsible for before the insurance will pay anything)
-
What is the allowed amount for outpatient mental health, CPT code 90837?
-
What is my out-of-network coinsurance, if any?
-
How much reimbursement will I receive for an out-of-network claim on CPT code 90837?
-
What is the process for submitting claim forms for reimbursement?
(If it is complicated, try the Reimbursify claim filing service.)
-
Are there any restrictions on the number of therapy sessions covered or the reimbursement limit?
They will know what these terms mean.
